MOSAIC 013 — RED's New Cinema Cameras & Nikon's $2,800 Lens
RED officially adopts the Z-mount and a host of new upgrades, Nikon's new 35mm f/1.2 lens, and Olympus's *potentially* overpriced MFT camera.

IS NIKON TAKING OVER?
Good morning, friends. We’ve got lots of good stuff to share today: Amelia Dimoldenberg hosting the SNL50 livestream, rumored Canon cameras, made-in-USA goods, a video on how to actually stay warm in winter, and even a KITH x VANS drop. But the headliner of it all? Nikon.
While this camera icon was the butt of most jokes during the mirrorless revolution, Nikon has launched an extraordinary comeback in recent years. Not only have they dramatically improved their Z-series cameras and lenses, they also made huge waves when they acquired RED in the spring of 2024. Less than one year later, we’re seeing the first fruits of that acquisition in the form of a Z-mount Raptor and Komodo.
The best part? Most of the upgrades that the Z-mount has enabled RED to implement will also result in upgrades for current RED owners. That’s what Michael Scott would call a win-win-win.
Without further ado; dive in, get lost, and enjoy.
