Hello, friends. Welcome to 2025. If you’ve already broken one of your dozen resolutions, you’re not alone. And if you couldn’t think of a James Bond joke for our 007 issue, that’s okay; we obviously couldn’t either. This is a safe space for all of us.

This year, we’re focusing on community. Mosaic may still be relatively new, but we have big plans for it in 2025, and we want you to play a big part in it. Our goal is to provide even more value, support, and encouragement for creators across the board. To kick things off, we’re announcing a new column; our “Artist of the Month” feature. Scroll down to check out January’s pick, and take a second to nominate someone who you think should be featured, too.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH

We mentioned it up top, and we’ll say it again; community is an essential part of Mosaic. Without you, there is no us. We were mulling that over during the holidays and came up with a plan to celebrate creators and artists this year. You’ll see this take shape in a few ways throughout 2025, and one of them is this new “Artist of the Month” column. In the first issue of each month, we’ll highlight an artist that we’ve been especially clicking with; someone we think is putting beautiful and valuable things into the world.

This month’s pick is Kansas City filmmaker, Blase Pivovar. We’re so impressed by Blase’s client work as a professional DP, which he does a phenomenal job of breaking down and teaching about on his YouTube channel. His soft-spoken and earnest approach is refreshing amidst a sea of high-octane clickbait, and we find his videos as relaxing as they are educational. Whether you’re looking for visual inspiration or trying to learn something new, we think filmmakers of all levels will enjoy the work Blase is doing.

The year may have only just begun, but 2025 already has plenty of cool stuff to share. Pulse Check is a round-up of our favorite creative industry news.

• Kodak price changes take effect this month, increasing some film stocks up to 8% while simultaneously lowering others.

• Photoshop users rejoice — this browser-native software makes creating mockups a breeze.

• Moment is kicking off the new year with a blowout gear sale; prices start at literally just $1.

• Yesterday, NVIDIA briefly eclipsed Apple as the world’s most valuable company ahead of its keynote at CES.

OFF-SCRIPT

Every now and then, it feels good to get lost down a few rabbit holes. Off-Script is our catch-all for exactly that; a random assortment of objects, products, music, books, tools, and inspiration we’re finding in our day-to-day.

• It’s the 007 issue of Mosaic — we can’t NOT talk about how beautiful this Omega Seamaster from “No Time to Die” is. Even if the price tag makes our wallets weep.

• This video from Speeed about habits breaks the mold of self-development videos and provides a ton of funny, insightful lessons to start 2025 with.

• Parents, rejoice; Osprey has entered the diaper backpack game, and boy does it look good.

• Winter is the best time to cozy up with a good jazz album, and this guitarist is one of our favorites to ever do it.
